Glass Gem corn is a unique heirloom flint corn known for its stunning, translucent kernels that resemble glass beads, and it can be used for both ornamental displays and culinary purposes.
Uses and Features
Ornamental: Each cob is a one-of-a-kind work of art, featuring a unique combination of blues, purples, pinks, oranges, and greens. They are widely popular for seasonal and fall decorations.
Edible: As a type of flint corn, it is not meant to be eaten fresh off the cob. Once dried, the kernels can be used as popcorn (they pop white, not in various colors) or ground into a richly colored cornmeal/flour for use in grits, tortillas, and bread.
Heirloom: The variety was developed through years of selective breeding using ancient Native American corn varieties and traditional open-pollination techniques, and the seeds are not genetically modified.
Nutritional Information: While not extensively studied, as a flint corn, it provides a good source of fiber, magnesium, and phosphorus.
