Summary: Deliberate human interference in weather patterns causes global warming and affects the human population of a small oceanic island. Genetically predisposed young men on the island are especially vulnerable as the stressful situation of rising temperatures, increasing cyclones, loss of species and other events in nature affect their mental health, leading to their schizophrenic behavior and a cascade of unforeseen events. Steven Forbes' closest friend, a meteorologist, dies violently after discovering strange, unnatural weather patterns in the region of the island. In his effort to solve the mysteries of his friend's death and to find an explanation for the illness of the island's inhabitants, Forbes travels to the beautiful tropical island, runs into dangerous situations and concludes that somebody wants to control weather patterns through environmental modification and use it as a tool to terrorize governments. Forbes concludes that sea floor explorations are used as a disguise for dangerous experiments with newly discovered volcanic thermal vents on the ocean floor. By triggering underwater volcanic eruptions the climate could by manipulated, causing effects such as droughts, desertification, changes in sea levels and species extinction as well as changes in the distribution and behavior of species. The island population suffers mentally and physically from the ravages of human-induced climate change. Forbes and his beautiful partner, Nancy, succeed in unraveling the mysteries. But they are not successful in preventing a roller coaster of horrific events leading to the demise of many people.
