The Glock Knife is a saw-back knife. The difference between the FM78 and the FM81 is that the FM78 has no saw back. The Glock knife was born as a result of a collaborative effort between Glock and the Austrian army's Jagdkommando special forces.
A part of the Austrian Special forces brief was that the Glock knife needs to be suitable for throwing. The blade design is a clip point and the thinned edge of the clip is sharpened to form a true second cutting edge. Consequently giving great penetration when throwing.
The blade is crafted from SAE 1095 spring steel. Subsequently, heat-treated to a hardness of 55 Rockwell. Spring steel has superb flexibility and impact resistance. Even when hardened it maintains a high yield stress limit and keeps an edge. A downside is that it is not as resistant to corrosion as stainless high chrome content steels. As a consequence, these blades are treated with a Glock phosphate treatment process. This consequently results in excellent corrosion resistance.
The Glock knife FM81 grips and sheaths* are made of Glock Polymer ll — invented by the great man himself. Available in Black, Grey. Flat Dark Earth and Field Green. Finally, the sheath has a retention clip that secures the knife, a belt clip for attaching the knife to a belt. Need a bottle opener? No problem, the cross-guard is designed to be a convenient bottle opener.
