The 2018 God of War for PS4 is a critically acclaimed action-adventure game that serves as a soft reboot of the franchise, shifting the setting from Greek to Norse mythology. It focuses on a more mature, subdued Kratos and his complex, developing relationship with his son, Atreus.

• Narrative and Storytelling: The story is a single-player, third-person cinematic experience presented in a continuous "one-shot" camera perspective with no cuts or loading screens. The plot centers on Kratos and Atreus fulfilling the final wish of Faye, Kratos's late wife and Atreus's mother: to spread her ashes from the highest peak in the realms. • World and Exploration: The game takes place in the gritty, detailed realms of Pre-Viking Norse lore, including Midgard, with an emphasis on exploration and discovery. While not an open world, it features large, interconnected areas and a fast travel system unlocked later in the game. Players navigate the world using a boat to traverse bodies of water and interact with various Norse mythological figures, monsters, and gods, such as draugrs, dark elves, trolls, and the main antagonist, Baldur.
