Dit was talle mense se waarneming dat die openbare gesprek in Suid-Afrika, en dan spesifiek in Afrikaans, n formidabele openbare intellektueel verloor het. Ten tye van sy dood was hy n sistematiese teoloog aan die Universiteit Stellenbosch. Hy was n oorspronklike en kreatiewe teoloog wat die gawe gehad het om sy gedagtes helder te formuleer en sorgvuldig te beredeneer. Hierdie bundel gedenk die lewe en werk van Gerrit Brand deur n aantal huldeblyke en n keur uit sy skrywes byeen te bring.
