This is definately a discerning collecter's piece ! The American Waltham Watch Company has a fascinating history. It was established in 1850 in Roxbury, Massachusettes and they planned to manufacture the movement parts so precisely that they would become fully interchangeable. Upon his 'Gettysburg Address', President Abraham Linciln was [resented with a Waltham Watch model 1857, serial number 67613. For more fascinating information please go to the website http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Waltham_Watch_Company
This particular fob watch has a gold cover (lightly engraved) over the face as well as a gold cover over the back. The serial number stamped on the back is 3520. On the website for serial numbers they say that the serial number from the 'guts' of the watch must be used a guideline to establish when it was made. This watch must have been made in the late 1800's, but to be more accurate the back of the actual watch must be opened (which I think only a jeweller/watchmaker can do). the other website address is http://www.pocketwatchsite.com/walthamserials.html
I did wind the watch very lightly and it did work but I cannot guarantee hat it works 100%. The body of the actual watch measures 5cm's and it is 7.5cm's when the winder is included.
There cannot be too many of these fob watches available around the world !
