First edition, published in 1946 by the Johannesburg Printing House. The dust jacket is torn and folded, but the cloth cover is still in a very good condition. Fly leafs marked by sellotape. Inside pages clean and neat. Binding sturdy. price clipped

A little treasure about how Johannesburg, the richest city on the African continent, came into being, told by many of those who were present in the early pioneer days. With many interesting photographs such as the first "permanent" house to be erected in Ferreira's Camp, how the mines were opened up, the mail coach, the pioneers' shopping centre and Mark Twains visit to South Africa.
