Really classy Exoto model of one of F1's most celebrated cars the Lotus 49 which won the World Championship with G Hill in 1968. Powered by the legendary Ford-Cosworth V8, it was immediately faster than all other F1 cars when it arrived at the Dutch GP in the middle of 1967. It went on to win races into 1970.
The Cosworth V8 went on to power F1 cars for decades and was used as a stressed chassis component in the Lotus thus pioneering a idea that was later adopted by all other F1 cars.
In 1968 it was one of the first F1 cars to run in full commercial sponsorship livery - resplendent in vibrant Gold Leaf colours. During 1968 the Lotus was upgraded to 49B and sprouted high wings which had just arrived on the F1 scene.
This model from the 1969 South African GP at Kyalami as driven by Hill with number One as the new World Champion. It was adorned with two high wings afixed to the front and rear suspension. - a logical conclusion of a crazy trend. These wings only survived a couple of races before being banned on safety grounds.
This a retired Exoto model and is extremely rare. It captures a brief, mad and dangerous period in F1 history. Wonderful addition to any collection and a true collector's piece. Exoto are known as the top 1/18 model manufacturer with brilliant detail and proportions.
In excellent condition and supplied in the original box also in perfect condition. Included is the white protective sleeve.
From my private collection. More interesting F1 cars to come.
Mario Andretti is not included and is displayed to give scale to the wings!
