This R1 Gold coin was added to the Official Coin Programme for the 2010 FIFA World Cup in 2008 and features the national tree of South Africa , the real yellowood and the bushman paitings derived from the Linton Panel . The Linton Rock Paintings , discovered at Maclear in the Esatern Cape are amongst the most complex expressions of San beliefs . One of the painted figures in the panel provided inspiration for the central motif of the South African Coat Of Arms . The words " 2010 Fifa World Cup South Africa '' also feature on the coin
The Stylised football and the official World Cup designation unify this legal tender coin series. The Coat of Arms, the words "South Africa" and the Year "2008 are featured on the Obverse of the coin
