PRINTED IN A LARGE 12 POINT SIZE ROMAN TYPEFACE IT IS EASY TO READ. FAMILY REGISTER HAS BEEN PARTLY FILLED IN HOWEVER BUT NEW OWNERS CAN TIPPEX OUT IF NEEDED. PAGES 291 TO 294 HAS SOME OLD YELLOW TAPE PAGE TEAR REPAIRS VISIBLE. BINDING IN TACT AND MOST PAGES IN GOOD CONDITION.
This year the Afrikaans community celebrates the 90th anniversary of the Afrikaans Bible. In 1933 Afrikaners could hold a complete Bible in Afrikaans in their hands for the first time. On 29 May 1933 the first shipment of 10 000 copies landed on home soil. In 1953 a linguistically revised edition of the Afrikaans Bible was published.
Many Afrikaners still prefer this old translation of the Bible in Afrikaans. There are some clear differences between this translation and the contemporary ones. The 1953 translation is an invaluable resource for anyone seeking a literal Afrikaans translation of the ancient languages. Some of the newer Afrikaans translations may be translated from a greater compilation of ancient manuscripts, but all of them contain extensive interpretation which causes a whole list of problems.
The Family Bible was and is still very popular with Afrikaner families. It was a Bible with a family register section in the front and would form part of generations of a particular families history where families would gather together to read from it.
CONDITION: FAMILY REGISTER HAS BEEN PARTLY FILLED IN. PAGES 291 TO 294 HAS SOME OLD YELLOW TAPE PAGE TEAR REPAIRS VISIBLE. BINDING IN TACT AND MOST PAGES IN GOOD CONDITION.
