Zytel Badger Hair Shaving Brush
The History Of Badger Hair in Shaving Brushes:
The modern shaving brush can trace it's roots back to the 1750's France, where the badger hair shaving brush was invented. Despite the centuries passing, the badger hair shaving brush has changed little from those early days. Many shavers view the handle as the prime worth of the brush, which can be made from plastic, ivory, gold and rare woods.
However, with all brushes it is the quality of the badger hair bristles in the brush that determine how good it will perform. Badger hair is imported from mostly from China. China is the source of the vast majority of badger hair used in shaving brushes.
Early records show that badger was hunted primarily for its meat, the hair was a by-product of an animal which was an important source of food. Today these badgers are bred solely for their fur.
This brush holds a good amount of water which mixes with the soap lifted from a shaving mug or scuttle (The more water a brush holds, the moister and richer the lather will be). Thicker and more emollient lather translates to less razor skipping and dragging. This is a high quality shaving brush which creates rich lather and exfoliate your face at the same time.
Here is a nice video, showing how to lather a shaving brush:
