This piece is striking! Clean contemporary design with lovely colour contrast makes this an eye-catching piece. A broad band 9ct yellow gold shank, narrow from underneath, broadens swiftly to 8mm across the ring head. 3 main bands of gemstones make up the ring head, which extends down the shoulders of the ring. The central band features 9 x 2,5mm square faceted natural rubies (totalling 1,18ct) channel set across the ring head, leaving a narrow border on either side of polished yellow gold. On either side of the rubies are 2 bands of brilliant cut diamonds (16 diamonds in all) claw set in 9ct white gold, ending on either side in line with the rubies. An interesting design element is that the bands of diamonds are not a single smooth arc, but rather 2 gently curved arcs that meet in the middle, giving an indent to the bands on either side. The bright pinkish red rubies against the icy sparkle of the diamonds and the warm yellow gold is a delight. At 17mm wide x 8mm long x 4mm high and weighing 3,92 grams, this is a large, solid piece. The piece bears only one hallmark - 375 for 9ct yellow gold. I don't know much about its origin but I bought it from a favourite vintage jeweller in England, in the heart of Birmingham's famous Jewellery Quarter. It is in good condition but has some buff marks. I have had it tested and authenticated by an independent jeweller. His evaluation certificate for R14'000 will accompany the ring. Beautifully made and nice and solid to handle, lying flat and snug on the finger, this is one of those classic rings that should remain in the family jewellery box for many years to come!
