This item is secondhand and in overall good condition, with a small dent on the lid and no mirror or powder puff. The compact is in a brushed gold tone and teardrop/heart shaped with the lid featuring an etched design of a Victorian couple. In the mid 1940s the Illinois Watch Case Co subsidiary Elgin American produced a series of heart shaped powder compacts aimed at St Valentine's Day market. This beautiful compact is one from the series. The inner base is wonderfully ornate and signed 'Elgin American Made in U.S.A.'The compact measures 9 x 8,5 cm.
