He employed artists, craftsmen and sculptors from across Europe to ensure a high quality of workmanship and product was achieved. In 1857 his son Lorenz Hutschenreuther opened his own independent factory in the town of Selb where his growth and reputation were to far exceed that of his father. 'Hutschenreuther of Selb' (or Hutschenreuther A.G.) became the first German porcelain company to be able to compete with the likes of Haviland and Wedgwood. Rapid growth was maintained by purchasing the assets ofother porcelain factories throughout Germany. In 1969 'Hutschenreuther of Selb' purchased all the assets previously owned by the original company established by Carolus Magnus Hutschenreuther. Hutschenreuther became a single company. WHY A COFFEE POT AND NOT A TEA POT? A coffeepot differs from a teapot mainly in shape. A coffee pot is usually tall and slender, while traditional teapots are more globular in shape.
