Weighs 11 grammes 11. 5 cm high. The intricate buttercup design was one of Gorham"s best.
These are exquisite strawberry forks, also could be used as pastry forks. Great for the ultimate teatime experience.
Acknowledged as one of the finest American manufacturers of flatware, Gorham exported to the British Empire areas from before the turn of the last century. The hallmark on these forks indicates a date of manufacture of 1910, marked for export. Marked Sterling Silver.
The piece is actually referred to in the set as a strawberry fork and replacements retail for $49. I see the designer was William C. Codman and that the design dates from 1899. The design was revived by Durgin in 1955 as "English Rose", although my pieces were definitely the earlier Gorham. I thought it looked a bit Art Nouveau. I had seen the design referred to as "buttercups" elsewhere on ebay. And indeed the flowers depicted seem to far more like buttercups than English Roses.
