A Cased Set of 40 Silver Proof Medallions from the South African Historical Mint. The medallions commemorate the sequence of Governors who ruled the Cape of Good Hope Colony from the early Dutch settler days up to the formation of the Union of South Africa in 1910. Here is a magnificent lasting tribute to those European leaders who championed the exploration, colonisation and development of South Africa over a period spanning more than 300 years.
Sterling Silver (Cape Mint STG Hallmark on Edge); Proof Struck with Cameo Frosted Designs. Diameter 28 mm. Mass 15.3 gm. The medallions are in mint condition and come protected inside transparent hard-plastic capsules. The case is covered in red leatherette and lined with red velvet and silk. It is in excellent condition.
A sample set of seven images of the obverses is shown. The reverse depicts Cape Town Castle with the "VOC" monogram of the Dutch East India Company above and the Cape Virgin below.
