I plugged in the old power lead and the mechanism switches on correctly when pulling the arm (which is bakelite) outward. The plate turns easily, but it's noisy. With the auto brake set on, the mechanism switches off when swinging the arm inward in the correct way. It feels good to me. The other cable would need to be plugged into an amplifier of some sort to know whether the sound is working correctly. It would love a bit of refurbishing.
