Kurt Weidemann, the German design critic who has written introduction to this sixth international poster annual, deplores the watering-down of the commercial poster that results from committee discussions, marketing tactics and managerial censorship.  Yet he is convinced that we have artists and photographers whose creative potential, given free rein, could make far more of the poster than is being made today.  He also points out that the bright ideas and artistic impulses that have wandered away from the marketplace have found a new field of action in cultural advertising.  This development is mirrored in the present volume, where cultural posters are not far in number behind their commercial counterparts.............
