From Great Britain, a Silver Medal to Commemorate the Coronation of King Edward VII & Queen Alexandra dated June 26th 1902. By Joseph Carter.
Comes in the original case of Issue from E.G. Jerby & Co. of Pietermaritzburg. The coronation had to be postponed until August, because the King became ill, so the date on the medal is incorrect. Presumably, the incorrectly dated medals were shipped to South Africa well in advance to be issued in locally made cases. Beyond recall, Kirby and Co. went ahead and issued them anyway.
Sterling Silver. Diameter 38.7 mm mm. Mass 23.7 gm.
