A Small Medal Made during the Boer War by the Tobacco Company, D. & H.O. Wills. A series of these medals was produced. Depicted on the obverses were British Generals or notable personalities. The reverses named brands of cigarettes or tobacco sold by the company. The practice was to put one of these medals into each packet or tin for smokers to collect.
This medal is of the Duke of York (Queen Victoria's grandson and later King George V) for The Three Castles Cigarettes. It is a RARE member of the series. The Duke of York together with his wife went on a tour of the colonies in 1901 to pay tribute their contribution to the war effort.
Brass. Diameter 16.2 mm. Mass 1.1 gm. Loop broken off.
