Great Britain : George III Simcox token dated 1791
A contemporary George III gaming counter in the form of a spade guinea dated 1791.
Unlike the gaming counters of similar type struck during the late Victorian period, the contemporary ones retain the official inscriptions. They have the maker's name in relief below the truncation of the bust, in this case, SIMCOX.
The Simcox business, which manufactured buckles and rings, etc., as well as counters, operated from Livery Street, Birmingham, between 1769 and at least 1830.
The inscription, SIMCOX, was used on gaming tokens dated 1791 to 1796.
