Eugene Hurter started painting in full time in 1981 after having been involved in electronic engineering for a period of twenty years.His love for art at led him to do a correspondence on the subject ,During this time he established his own gallery while living and working in Bethlehem in the Free State.In 1980 he was transferred To Durban to take up a post as senior technician where he again established his own part time gallery.After having had many sell out exhibitions and working mainly in water colours and pastels ,his work attracted the attention of many local and overseas galleries.In 1985 he relocated to Johannesburg where he received commissions from the corporate sector such as ,Standard Bank, Anglo American, Barclays bank and Old Mutual.In 1986 he was invited to exhibit at the International Art Expo in Los Angeles, the only South African artist on which such an honor was bestowed.During 1994 he decided to sell everything and travel across the country by caravan and paint. This he did for nine years traveling around the Cape West Coast and the Karroo He was commissioned by many wine estates to do paintings of their estates such as Bellingham Wine Estates, Bouvlei Cellars , Slanghoek Cellars,Botha Cellars and many others.As it was becoming unsafe to travel around the country by caravan ,he decided in 2002 to relocate to the Eastern Transvaal where he has a home gallery and studio in Lydenburg.
