If you are wanting to generate useful electricity with your solar panels/wind generator and use the electricity to power the appliances in conjunction with incoming power from the Municipality, then YOU HAVE TO USE a GRID-TIE inverter. NO OTHER TYPE of inverter will work. If you connect other types of inverters to the municipal mains, there will be a BIG BANG. The GRID-TIE inverter measures the mains frequency initially and then generates its power from the solar panels in EXACT SYNC with the Municipal power. It continually monitors the frequency and if it detects them going out of phase then it disconnects and starts again. It is the ONLY device that will suck as much energy that a solar panel can deliver and convert it to useful electricity. No expensive batteries are needed.

Grid tie inverter

As these units have no moving parts, their lifetime expectation is similar to that of solar panels.(25 years)

A grid tie inverter manages the energy from the solar panels and converts it very efficiently to mains power in exact phase with the City Power. It needs no batteries and has efficiencies as high as 95%.

It is very safe and will cutoff all power generation within a few milliseconds of the City Power supply failing.

It is about the only device on the market that can keep solar panels working at optimum efficiency throughout the day, taking all the availalble sun power and turning it into useful energy.

Different manufacturers of solar panels produce panels that different performance specifications. The Gridtie inverter has features to continously monitor the current andf voltage being delivered and adjust the parameters. Their is a trend now overseas to see micro grid tie inverters built into the back of solar panels on the roof and to deliver optimised mains power delivery.

On solar arrays that have a single generation point, whenever a part of the array falls into shade then the entire system is compromised. With micro gridtie inverters, shade only affects a minor part of the array and all the rest of the array keeps delivering power at full capacity.

To use these gridtie inverters, connect the solar panels to the inverter, and plug the inverter into a mains plug just like you would plug in any appliance like a kettle. There is no need for special wiring or connection to your mains supply.
