Because this GRID TIED LIMITER prevents power being exported to the grid, anyone who does not have the old analogue meter system, can now safely use a Grid Tied Inverter in conjunction with this GRID TIED LIMITER, even those with a pre-paid meter.
This GRID TIED LIMITER measures the power required by the AC load and notifies the Grid Tied Inverter to Limit the power generated to equal that of the AC Load. Because no extra power is generated no power can be exported. Power Meters (except Smart meters) cannot differentiate between the direction of power flow, so if power is exported to the grid you will be charged for power in both directions and this is a problem, but with the Grid Tied Limiter as you are not exporting power to the grid, you will not be billed except for what units you use from your electric supplier (ESKOM).
If the GTI is producing less power than what is required by the AC load then the load will be supplemented with power from the Grid.
