Author - Franck Goddio, E J Guyot De Saint Michel
Publisher - A & C Black, Ltd.: 1999, First edition.
A Good folio size hardback book with a Very Good dustjacket and slipcase.
Unfortunately there has latterly been a single worm penetraion through the spine of the slipcase and into the fore-edge of the paperblock. The worm track traces a quadrant 8cm x 6cm from the fore-edge to the bottom edge. This has resulted in pages 155 to 205 showing such fault and pages 161 to 182 having the quadrant completely separated. There is little or no interference with the text or illustrations here (see pic). The quadrants can be carefully re-attached with acid free tape.
This fault reduces the book from a Near Fine item.
In this publication, Franck Goddio presents the final results and conclusions of fifteen years of patient efforts of research, restoration and preservation of the thousands of items found on the wreck of the Honourable East India Company ship "Griffin", which sank with a cargo of porcelain, silks and tea in the Sulu Sea in 1761.
In addition, the "Griffin" was part of a convoy sailing along a so far little-known and inventive alternate sea route - and accompanied a secret mission of the first importance for the policy of expansion which the East India Company aggressively if discreetly pursued at the time.
Pages xv, plus maps 346 pages detailed text with illustrations.
