Isaac Sithole was born in Mocambique in 1974. He started woodcarving at the age of 12. He moved to South Africa where he worked as a professional, full-time woodcarver at the BAT center in Durban. He worked with a colour reduction technique. This involved cutting away at the woodblock each time the colour was printed. He made small editions and was inspired by daily and cultural events in the lives of village people. He was one of KZN's most prolific artists until his death in 2012 at the age of 38. His works are represented in numerous private and corporate collections. |
