Our many thanks to Newton and other geniuses like him for giving rise to such a fantastic physics toy like the GyroRing Original. This intriguing little thing may look like something found in a child’s playpen but in actuality, the GyroRing Original is a fun educational tool that displays some of the very complex phenomena that Sir Isaac helped us to understand.
Great as a teaching tool in the classroom or just as a means of entertaining yourself, the GyroRing Original is an exciting way to experience energy transfer and gyroscopic motion. Simply grab the 11” silver ring and strike the smaller, colored discs—this will get them to start spinning horizontally, much in the same way as a top does.
Keep rotating the ring and the discs will begin spinning faster and faster—up to 1000 RPMs! It’s what’s known as precession. The rotation of the spinning axis causes the ring to press against one side of each of the five smaller discs, creating a contact point where energy is transferred and keeps them spinning. Once you get the hang of GyroRing Original, you can work your way up to more complicated tricks to wow your audience, whether it’s a class full of students or just yourself standing in front of the mirror.

How Does The Gyro-Ring Work?
The Gyro-Ring is really just five little tops of unusual design strung on a metal ring. Do you remember how tops appear to start "wobbling" as they slow down? This rotation of the spinning axis is called precession and causes the ring to press on one side of the hole in the spinning top. The contact point between the ring and the top can be thought of as a gear that changes the motion of the upward moving ring into the top's spinning motion.
