 Halda Vintage Taxi Meter 

This is an old taxi cab meter made by Halda of Sweden.  Halda has been in business for over 100 years , but this meter probably dates to the middle of the twentieth century.  Halda taximeter was the only approved taximeter in all of London. 

This meter has a lighted flag that says " For Hire" - (which is broken - as seen on pictures).  When you push the flag down, the meter clock starts ticking, since you pay for both miles and time.  The turn handle at the back allows you to wind it up so that when you put the flag down it adds to the fare based on time on the road. The meter mesures about 5.5" wide by 6" tall by 6" deep.

This is the kind of meter that you see in old movies.  It is a glimpse into the past , a look at a bygone era.  Transportation history right here for taking.
