Hallmarked Sterling Silver Backed Clothes Brush By Henry Matthews (dated 1919)
A true turn of the Century treasure.
This beautiful sterling silver backed clothes brush decorated with decadent Art Nouveau flourishes would have sat elegantly on the dressing table of a well - to -do lady or gentleman.
The makers mark (H M) is that of renowned Birmingham Silversmith, Henry Matthews who operated fro 1894 to 1930. It bears the Lion Passant and the date mark "U" for 1919.
It is in excellent condition for its age and an item that would have been used.
The bristles are stitched into a light coloured wooden base, and are not dropping out.
The silver has some slight scratches and pits to the surface as indicated.
A truly beautiful piece. It would make a beautiful gift and a must have for the silver collector.
