Hallmarked Sterling Silver And Mother Pearl Fruit Knife
Mother of pearl handle covers with sterling silver hallmarked blade. Birmingham 1889 Victorian styled solid silver folding penknife frame and the handles are covered with mother of pearl, this piece has never been monogrammed so it would be suitable for personalising if desired.
William Needham is mentioned specifically in Blade's Guide to Knives and Their Values:
"William Needham manufactured silver fruit knives with Mother-of-Pearl handles in Sheffield from about 1891-1920. He offered scores of patterns ranging from the plainest to the most elaborately engraved, carved and pique models. Most were of exceptionally high quality."
According to the book the value of the knife would be about $150-200 and similar knives by William Needham in lesser condition have sold for £80 on Daniel Bexfield Antiques.
