Solid Wild Olive wood live-edge centrepiece bowl. This functional sculpture showcases a mesmerizing, high-contrast topographyjuxtaposing the rough, deeply textured original tree bark against a highly polished, amber-toned interior that accentuates wild, swirling grain patterns. Each line tells the story of an ancient tree weathered by the African elements. The base has been seamlessly planed flat, allowing this piece to sit entirely sturdy and balanced. It serves as an lovey dining table centrepiece, an fruit gallery, or a standalone statement item on a console or executive desk.
Crafted from a slow-growing, generational timber block estimated to be between 60 to over 100 years old, this extraordinary piece is carved from indigenous African Wild Olive wood (Olea europaea subsp. africana). Known for its extreme density, durability, and dramatic marbled grain, Wild Olive grows at a rate of only a few millimetres per year, making mature timber highly prized and rare.
Hand-carved by a local artisan approximately 10 to 30 years ago, this piece represents a masterclass in organic live-edge woodwork. Rather than using mechanical lathes, the sculptor meticulously chiselled out the heartwood while preserving the rugged, raw tree bark along the flanks. It is a stunning bridge between untouched African wilderness and mid-century sculptural art.
