This is an original hand coloured 1813 aquatint in its original state.

Samuel Howitt was an established artist who exhibited at the Royal Academy. He included 10 South African prints in his book "Foreign field sports..."  published in 1814 in limited numbers. This book is today extremely valuable and rare.

The hunter  who appears in the plate, is, according to the text, Francois le Vaillant.

This hand coloured aquatint s a little browned at the top but can still be enjoyed. In a very good mount and frame. Aquatint is 17 cm x 22cm. Frame is 29 cm x 32 cm.
