HAND-CRAFTED ART JEWELLERY RING NATURAL LARGE TURQUOISE & GARNETS STERLING SILVER BROAD SHANK

 

I was rather fascinated with this jeweller's hand-crafted pieces of jewellery. He refers to them as "jewellery art" and each piece is one of a kind. This ring features a very large natural turquoise gemstone that is sea-green in colour. It is a beautiful smooth cabochon, 13.06 carats in weight. Its quality is beautiful and its colour unusual. This particular stone comes from Africa. The ring itself is solid sterling silver that has been hand-beaten into a very broad shank (16 mm at the head and 10 mm at the back) with die-cut holes through the silver and a rough texture on top. The back of the shank is open but its a solid piece so it won't stretch much beyond its actual size of 6/half. Maybe 6/three quarters. The turquoise is "claw-set" in a rather unusual rough set of extended silver claws that have been topped with a copper colour finish into which African garnets have been bevel set. Its quite a fascinating piece of jewellery. Looks great on the hand and will appeal to someone who likes very different, natural jewellery.
