Hand-Thrown Clay Vase

Hand-Thrown Clay Vase

A substantial and highly decorative hand-thrown clay vase, of impressive scale and presence, standing approximately 31 cm in height, with a width of approximately 15 cm and a weight of approximately 1.475 kg.

The vase is distinguished by an elaborate decorative treatment incorporating stylised dragon forms, botanical motifs and geometric key-fret borders, creating a striking and richly textured surface. The decoration appears integral to the body of the vessel, rather than simply applied as surface painting, lending the piece considerable depth and visual interest.

The body appears to have been individually thrown on a potters wheel, displaying the subtle variations and characteristics associated with traditional hand craftsmanship. The warm earthen colouring and distinctive surface finish further enhance its character and give the piece a particularly atmospheric presence.

An unusual and visually compelling example of decorative pottery, with considerable appeal to collectors of fine decorative arts, traditional pottery and hand-crafted vessels.
