Description:
Restricted handbook produced by the Directorate of Military Intelligence of the South African government. Dated March 1975. Typed on the first page: "This information is furnished with the understanding that it will not be used for other than military purposes and that it will only be issued to persons who need to know its contents in the course of their official duties."
The detailed table of contents includes chapters that cover: "Markings and Weapons Supplied by Red China and other Communist countries"; Ammunition; Automatic weapons such as Czech and Russian machine guns; Hand grenades and mines. In the introductory Chapter 1, it states: "The aim of the book is to give a short, handy description of most of the general weapons and equipment possessed by the terrorists in our neighbouring states"
Black plastic binder with typed A3 pages. Cover of binder printed in silver with the SANDF Military Intelligence crest of an owl, the symbol of knowledge, wisdom and also vigilance, and a motto in Latin, "Vigilans et Sciens", which expresses this symbolic representation. Translated into English the motto means "Watching and Knowing". 66 pages in English and 66 in Afrikaans (130 pages in total) In good condition, slight discolouration from age on first two pages and where pages were thumbed.
