Alpaca silver is the common name for a metal alloy, a combination of metals, of copper and sometimes other metals such as zinc, tin, lead or cadmium. The alloy also can be called German silver, new silver and paktong.Alpaca silver will keep its shine for a very long time if of good quality and when taken well care of.
Cleaning:
The Simple Method
You need to have a Sterling silver cloth. This should have two parts; one cloth to clean the tarnish on the jewellery and one cloth to give it a final shine. With the "tarnish" cleaning cloth, little by little, pass it softly over the jewellery several times.
Next, pass the "final shine" part of the cloth over the jewellery until you bring back its original shine and store the jewellery in their own pouches made of soft material.
The Deep Cleaning Method
If your jewellery hasn't been cleaned for a while, then it may need a more thorough method of cleaning. Make a solution of warm water, a few drops of lemon and mild soap (shampoo or liquid soap). Place your jewellery on a soft cloth as with the other method. Slightly dampen your "tarnish" Sterling silver cloth with the solution and gently pass it over the metal. When the shine comes back, finish the cleaning process with the dry "final shine" part of the cleaning cloth.
