This handheld refractometer is exactly what you need for measuring a liquid's refractive index. This means the instrument can be used to accurately determine the sugar content of many foods and drinks such as fruit, vegetables, Beer, Wine as well as other items. The working method is based on the critical angle principle where by the lens and prisms project a shadow line onto the glass reticule within the device. This can then be viewed and ensured by the user through the eyepiece which magnifies the image and can be rotated to obtain the correct focus.
Easy Calibration and ATC. After cleaning the plate and calibrating it using the supplied screwdriver simply use dropper to add a few drops of the sample liquid onto the prism plate. Close the daylight screen to disperse the liquid across the prism and while holding up the refractometer in clear light look through the eye piece to and you will be able to read off the Brix % of the sucrose content in the solution.
To ensure an accurate reading this easy to use hand held refractomoeter has an automatic temperature compensator (ATC) that adjust the lens and prism calibration in response to adjusting temperatures so as you always receive an accurate reading.

How to use:
Place a few drops of liquid on the optical parts of the refractometer, cover the prism (liquid will be easier to spread on the prism), observe the light through the eyepiece (focus if necessary), and you will be able to read the resulting value on the scale. Measuring range 0-80% v / v (VOL- alcohol volume percentage). Reference temperature 20 degrees
