The theme of this anthology of poems and short stories, Harambe means all pull together in Kenyas national language, Swahili. It is an allusion to team work and valuing the community before the individual.
Just as the lyrics of Rita Marley's song, Harambe, aptly portrays the elements of the theme, so too does the efforts of our often misunderstood youth - our millennials! The poems and short stories capture the essence of working together, pulling together, helping each other, caring, and sharing, remarkably. The words come from the heart and depict unseen and unspoken feelings of a generation of youth that needs to be heard.
This anthology would not have pulled together had it not been for the motivation & supervision of dedicated educators willing to ensure our youth are recognized for their talents.
Harambe is also a work chant used on the East African Coast. HARAMBE! Let us all pull together!
