A selection of 20 short stories by Nathaniel Hawthorne, 1804-1864, who is honored this year [1983] with a commemorative stamp issued by the United States Postal Service. Stories include "The Haunted Quack: A Tale of a Canal Boat," "The Minister's Black Veil: A Parable," "Old Ticonderoga: A Picture of the Past," "Chippings with a Chisel," "Mrs. Bullfrog," and "Earth's Holocaust." Wonderful full page black-and-white illustations throughout, with a two-tone brown page featuring a hawthorne bush in perforated stamp motif separating each story.
