'Haystack' by George Marinus Tamson 1873-1939 Ref. AR-12

Description:  Unframed, oil on board (masonite) of a “Haystack" in a field.
Artist:  Dutch artist, George Marinus Tamson
Date: Born Middelburg 1873. Died 1939
History: Little is known about Tamson although his main market appears to have been Britain. Dates of works can not be given with sufficient precision.  Tamson can be found in reference works such as Architecture Painter; Landscape Painter; Painter; Wood Cutter; Etcher; Pastel Artist; Water Colorist.   In his early life, Tamson enrolled at the Rijksnormaalschool voor Teekenwijzers Amsterdam from 1890 to 1894 and again in 1896 to 1897. In 1894 he passed his final exam (an exam which took 13 days to accomplish) at the Amsterdam School of Teachers’ teaching.   From 1898 to 1903, Tamson was "Teacher of the City Teekschool" in Edam as well as a stint in Auvers-sur-Oise, France, the home of van Gogh who lived there until his death in 1890. It appears van Gogh influenced some of the paintings of Tamson. In 1903 Tamson moved to Enkhuizen, where he was a "Teacher Hand Sign and Line Sign" at the H.B.S. where he became “acting director” and eventually "director of secondary education". In 1909 he became a member of the “Society Arti et Amicitiae Amsterdam” and in 1911 a member of “Vereeniging Sint Lucas Amsterdam”.
Presentations: from 1903 - 1913, Stedelijk Museum Amsterdam
Observations: Tamson must have made artistic trips to southern regions of France. These works include the watercolor from Bruges, work from the area of Charleroi, a street road through a village in southern France, and the gondola in Venice.  Closer to home, Tamson worked everywhere in Zeeland: Vlissingen, Middelburg, Veere, Goes. Some of his works can be seen at the Waaggebouw Museum in Enkhuizen, the Vlaardingen Museum and the Gemeente Museum. His works are of particular interest in Enkhuizen.
Condition: Good, some slight damage to edges and corners. Possibly needs cleaning.
