Head in The Clouds

Head in the Clouds is a 2004 film directed by John Duigan.

Plot:The story is set in the 1930's. Gilda Bessé (Theron), an infamous socialite, shares her Paris apartment with a young Cambridge undergraduate named Guy Malyon (Townsend) and Mia (Cruz), a refugee from Spain. A fortuneteller convinces Gilda that she will die at age 34, and Gilda turns to hedonism. As the world drifts toward war, Gilda defiantly pursues her hedonistic lifestyle and her burgeoning career as a photographer. However, both Guy and Mia head to Spain to join the fight against fascism, leaving a deceived Gilda back in Paris. After Mia dies, Guy goes back to Paris, eventually discovering Gilda has become the mistress of a Nazi officer. The officer discovers her birth records when she is 33 and surprises her with a birthday gift. However, Gilda will save Guy's life, risking her own, as Guy learns Gilda has left hedonism to join the Resistance. Gilda proves her true love to Guy and his ideals, when she is 34.
