My name is Bernhardt, and like many other parents, I have frequently prepared quick meals for my child without considering the nutritional value thereof. A dear friend of mine bought me this little book explaining that what my child eats in her early years will determine her future health. This was a real eye-opener for me - I came to the sad realization that I was not taking my responsibilities as a parent serious enough! It was time for a change and I found that change in the sound advice offered in this wonderful little book entitled, Healthy Food for Babies and Toddlers.
I still remember the days when my daughter went through a phase of simply not eating enough, or at least not as regularly as I thought appropriate. The doctor's advice of, "Don't worry, she will eat when she is hungry" was not enough to comfort me. I found my solution in chapter 4 under the subtitle Hunger Strike – Tips To Tempt a Faddy Eater. The first tip was to invite her to help me prepare dinner, the second was to create excitement when eating it and the trick was a dinner-picnic in the middle of the kitchen with Granny's basket, paper-plates and the likes thereof.
I was really satisfied, and felt a sense of achievement in that I was making a difference towards the child’s future health!
This little book by Patsy Westcott is filled with sound advice and many practical suggestions which will:
· Clearly explain the nutritional requirements of babies and toddlers;
· Show how children use food to develop vital skills such as physical coordination;
· Cover the social aspects of eating with advice on how to encourage good table manners;
· Discuss food problems, from allergies to under-nutrition;
· Include sample menus.
