Henry Earp (1831-1914) watercolour  'Cattle Watering by a Wooden Bridge'

The Earps were a famous family of painters (possibly) from Brighton, all of whom painted landscapes. The father was Henry Earp (senior) and he specialised in cattle and landscapes.  Although he was a prolific painter in both oils and watercolours, very little is actually known about the family. Henry Earp senior exhibited widely at the Walker Gallery Liverpool  Manchester City Art Gallery, also The Royal Institute for Painters in Watercolour, and the Royal Society of British Artists. Today, paintings by Henry Earp can be seen at the following art galleries in England. The Herbert Art Gallery and Museum, The Brighton and Hove Museums and Art Galleries, The Towneley Hall Art Gallery and Museum.
Henry Earp appears to have always signed his name as 'H.Earp, Snr'

Through research I found that Henry signed a contract in 1878 to 1880, to sell all his paintings to a Mr. Biddle of Brighton.  It is possible that this is why the Earp family became associated with Brighton.

Other members of this Brighton family who painted were Frederick, Edwin, George, Vernon and William Henry Earp, they were all painters of landscapes and coastal scenes between 1828 – 1914.  Some of their paintings are held in Brighton and Hove Art Gallery. The provenance of this particular one is a large collection of Earp family paintings dispersed at Gorringes Auction in Lewes a few years ago.

The painting on offer, entitled 'Cattle Watering by a Wooden Bridge' measures roughly 20cm x 27.5 cm.
It has been newly mounted, but, set in the original frame, which measures 35cm x 41cm. Finely executed in watercolor,it remains in very good condition.

Please note, I am NOT a qualified archaeologist/antiquarian and the description I have given is based on research of the subject.
This is a genuine antique. Please remember the classification of an 'antique' is that it should be 100 years old, OR MORE. There are many articles being offered as 'antiques' when, clearly, they are not.
