Arborescens, alter synthesis and thus the structure of the virus envelope necessary for infecting lymphocytes. Further studies at The Southern Research Institute found that there is suppression of the viral messenger RNA in HIV-1 infected leukocytes. Therefore, the reproduction of HIV-1 is inhibited with a natural and non-toxic substance.
African Medicine perspective: the plant has long been used from the Cape to tropical Africa on its own or together with other plants, for cancer and HIV patients.
