Herbie Hancock is a true icon of modern music. Throughout his career he has transcended limitations and genres while maintaining an unmistakably distinctive style and has an illustrious musical history spanning five decades and 12 Grammy® Awards, including the 2007 Album Of The Year for River: The Joni Letters, only the second jazz album in history to win this award.
Having established himself as a consummate jazz pianist performing with the likes of Miles Davis, Wayne Shorter and Oscar Peterson, he went on to compose the cult hit soundtrack to the film Blow Up in the 60s. One of the first jazz musicians to embrace synthsisers, he achieved mainstream success in the 70s with jazz funk albums Headhunters and Manchild, and crossed into the pop arena in the 80s with his hit single "Rockit", which won a Grammy® Award and 5 MTV Awards for its video.
Recorded to mark the jazz legend’s 70th birthday in 2010, The Imagine Project follows on from the success of his previous collaborative projects such as 2007’s River: The Joni Letters. Bringing together some of the greatest artists from a wide spectrum of cultural and musical backgrounds, from pop superstars to leading world music luminaries, The Imagine Project draws on the universal language of music to express central themes of peace and global responsibility.
