Hesperantha is a genus of cormous plants belonging to the Iridaceae family of which there are 79 species. Of these 79 species 42 are found growing in the winter-rainfall area of southern Africa, 37 in the summer-rainfall area of southern Africa and a further 4 in tropical Africa. Hesperantha vaginata grows to 15cm tall. It has yellow flowers with black markings, in spring. It is a very rare and beautiful species.
