Offered for sale is a highly collectible and unusual vase by esteemed Dutch designer Marcel Wanders for the studio Moooi. This piece dates to the 1990's and is no longer in production. The vase is slip cast porcelain with a bisque unglazed matte finish on the exterior and a glazed smooth interior. The base has a transfer printed studio name Moooi. Mooi is the Dutch word for beautiful. The vase is a fine example of the quirky post modern , anti-utilitarian and anti-functional design aesthetic associated with the influencial Memphis design movement of the 1980's/90's and post modern deconstruction design . The vase was made by Royal Delft in the Netherlands for Moooi. Marcel Wanders ceramics are keenly collected on the international circuit and have been acquired by prestigious museums around the world including the MOMA, Museum of Modern Art in New York. Like the British designers Richard Slee and Robert Dawson ,Marcel Wanders has made an impact by examining cliched and well known examples of pottery , such as traditional Delft blue and white ware and reconfiguring the designs and patterns in strange highly sculptural and decorative forms . As a price comparison similar examples sell on the nett for around 160 US dollars .
