This is a very scarce volume on the immediate aftermath of the nuclear bomb attack on the town of Hiroshima, with six survivor accounts retold to Hersey, and efforts by the military, local population and volunteers to assist with saving any survivors, as well as trying to handle with cleanup efforts after the devastation wrought upon the population.
