Manufactured Circa 1990's ....strange but true !!!!!

Device was decommissioned between 2011-2014 from one of the last outlying areas that still operated with manual telephone exchanges in the Northern Cape.

This was the last model crank phone produced by Post & Telecommunications of South Africa that was used by South African citizens on a public communication network. It has the initial Telkom logo ( "T" replacing "PT" in a diamond pattern ) underneath and the Telkom dial pad logo ( See pics) indicating the 1990's period when that specific logo was first introduced.

This product is a niche piece of South African history and is a rare example of antiquated technology being utilised for decades beyond its technological relevance. It shared the same communication space with GSM/3G wireless technology during the first decade of the 21st century.
This device has been in daily use for almost 20 years before Telkom initiated a project to upgrade exchanges and convert clients from fixed copper-based landlines  to wireless Fixed Line Look Alike (FLLA) over the GSM network.

As with most collectable items, the first and last model manufactured will always hold value.
