Great Britain King William III Silver Crown 1696 Octavo.Dia. 38mm,weight 29.8grams,.925 Silver

The second of 2 items that are very significant from a Numismatic history perspective on offer this month is the 1696 Silver Crown from the reign of King William III

During the late 17th century the British coinage was in disarray and the King order the Great Recoinage in 1696.Isaac Newton was appointed Warden of the Royal Mint and was asked for assitance. This Crown would have been the first generation of coins produced as a result of the Great Recoinage.

Crowns from this era also have a large collector base as they were also used as currency in the American Colonies.

The crown of offer is F in my opinion.Lots of details and all the lettering still clearly visible and will benefit from professional cleaning.

Catalog value is GBP 80 in F.

As a bonus you will also receive an Authoritive book named "Crowns of the British Empire " 2nd Edition by Richard J Trowbridge. The book is a very usfull reference work full of information of the Monarchs and the crowns issued during their reigns with many little known variations and patterns. The book is still in a very good condition.

Here is your chance to own a piece rich with history and of numismatic significance and a direct link to Newton.

Pictures below is of the actual coin and book.
